Fourslide Stamping of a Steel Collar for the Electrical Industry
A customer in the electrical industry commissioned Slidematic Products Co. to produce a steel collar that would utilize our fourslide stamping capabilities. The steel collar needed to be tapped, zinc plated, and a torque requirement was needing to be held. The client supplied us with all the specifications and a 2D CAD drawing.
We expertly designed and built a fourslide tool, which included processes of punching, tapping, extruding, and crimping in one operation. We produced this product using our fourslide stamping equipment, with tapping attachment that allowed us to perform the roll tapping in line. The product was made of 12 gauge steel and has a 5/16" fine thread tapped extrusion. The finished circuit breaker terminal collar was .640" long, .450" wide, and .920" high and needed to be zinc plated. The majority of the tolerances were held within +/- .005 and the final torque readings well exceeded the minimal requirement.
Upon completion a PPAP/FAI was completed along with a capability study to ensure quality. In the months following approval we produced over 1 million units for our client in the Midwest.
